Who are we?
The Swoop Troupe was founded at the University of North Florida under the name “The Musical Theatre Club” in the Fall of 2016 by two Freshmen students, Dominik Tajti and Madeline Aquino. As a nursing student and a biomedical sciences student respectively, they had come to UNF for their excellent science programs, despite the lack of a theatre presence on campus. They decided to start the Musical Theatre Club that year, putting on flash mobs in the student union and an end of the year showcase. The following year, the club made the leap and put on the university’s first-ever musical theatre production, Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 the Musical. In 2018, the club put on Sondheim’s Into the Woods. With the growth of their club and productions, in early 2019 they decided to rebrand their organization into what it is today: The Swoop Troupe. In 2020, The Swoop Troupe put on Rogers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. The Swoop Troupe is a group of theatre lovers committed to providing UNF students and Jacksonville community the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of theatrical production.
